mayacalendI was one of those people who got on the spiritual journey at a very young age, in fact, even in childhood I had a desire to understand this world, why we are here and what it is all about. In the 60s I went to my first ashram and swept floors and pathways as part of my duties. In the 70s I studied numerous spiritual disciplines, traveled the world and went to see all and any spiritual speaker.  In the 80s I spent many years on the Native American Indian reservations hanging out with elders and going to traditional ceremonies.  I also, around that time, went to North Africa and did work with Sufis – that would be a book all on its own! Then in the 90s began to share this collected wisdom/experience in circles and gatherings of all kinds, which I continue to do, less frequently, today.

I have attended a gazzilion “new age Festivals” (some people say new age rhymes with sewage) Seen every kind of guru-smooruru you can imagine. Met Three re-incarnated Jesus’s, Five incarnated ArcAngel Michaels, just about every reincarnated apostle, and the Goddess Isis in a lady who used be called Kerry.....So you might say, I have seen ‘em come and I’ve seen em go!

I remember in the 80s, a teacher called Sun Bear, based in Washington State published a book on Hopi and Mayan prophecies, which many of us studied. The book talked of a great red mountain in a red southern land. In those days the USSR was “red” for communism and many people thought the Russians would take over the world with their bombs etc. Of course that all sounds funny, in retrospect, but at the time many people believed it would happen. I lived in Canada and most people were afraid that if the USA and the USSR went to war, the bombs would be flying over our heads! I knew several people who made bomb shelters and stored tonnes of food and water for the impending event. I lived in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and everyone told me I had to worry about nuclear winter as I was too far from the city to concern myself with radiation. Kinda funny given we are now worrying about global warming!

Of course, things were no better here in Australia. I know of several people who left the cities and bought bush properties because they felt society would fold and we’d all need to be self-sufficient. Sadly many became too sick and incapacitated because of ill-health, and I know of several very sad stories of failed relationships and great financial loss.

There have been numerous books, written by numerous authors based on star alignments, prophesy and visions, both channelled and otherwise. Many dates were given for the “big shift” and these included the 1987 Harmonic Convergence which I attended as a newspaper reporter back in Canada. I could go on and on and list all the other “dates” including the year 2000 which was heralded as a dawning of a new era but the most famous has been the 2012 Mayan Calender which expired late last year. Of course, many tourists were disappointed, to the point that according to newspaper reports:..............

“Tourists flocking to Guatemala for “end of the world” parties have damaged an ancient stone temple at Tikal, the largest archaeological site and urban centre of the Mayan civilisation. More than 7,000 people visited Tikal on Friday to see native Mayan priests hold a colourful ceremony and light fires as the sun emerged to mark the new era.
“Sadly, many tourists climbed Temple II and caused damage,” said Osvaldo Gomez, a technical adviser at the site, located 340 miles north of Guatemala City. ”We are fine with the celebration, but (the tourists) should be more aware because this is a (UNESCO) World Heritage Site,” he told local media. Gomez did not specify what was done, [but] did say it was forbidden to climb the stairs at the site and indicated that the damage was irreparable.”

I guess it is reflective of the times we live in where respect and honour comes at the bottom of our list of priorities. But..... to look at the bright side...what other dates are now being touted?

As of this date, none! (Don’t hold your breathe. Someone will channel something, or find something that will offer a new “very scary” date of just a few years into the future. Perhaps it will be the year 2020 when we will all see clearly (sorry...bad joke, but couldn’t resist!)

So...what’s going on??
Let me share my perspective.

Many, many years ago, when I met, spoke and interacted with genuine elders they would constantly tell me that we should all “live in present time.” Of course, as a young woman, aching to “know” I didn’t understand this answer because I wanted to know...now!!!. Other elders told me that after 2012, “we would not need calendars” to track energies because we would be able to intuit them directly ourselves! Again...I didn’t understand that answer either. But now, all these years later, I see so clearly that these elders were trying to tell us to get away from “what will happen” and into embracing what already is.

I meet so many people who are doing “vision boards” or other magical actions not to feel happier or to live in the moment, but in order to manifest a better material life. We are constantly encouraged to strive, grow and accumulate. Most importantly, we are never told to chill-out and just enjoy our lives the way they are!

While each of us has to look at the Mayan prophecies from their own perspective and their own journey...perhaps some of us will remember the John Lennon song: Imagine, where he posited that life would be a lot better if we had no religion, no hell-fire, nothing to divide us. In the end, what divides us is only thought, only an idea, and only a story.

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace

You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world
You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one

After all these years of speculation, studying prophesy and wondering what will happen, why don’t we just live today in the light of our be-ing and let all these mythologies dissolve away...they are only stories and they only have power if we give them power. So...ask yourself the question...what did the Mayan Calendar expiration teach me? If this whole long-drawn, greatly speculated "prophesy" has helped you let it all go, live in present time in gratitude, love and light....then the Mayans have indeed fulfilled their prophesy!

Blessed be...as ever.....L
