Recently I was honoured to be asked to present a workshop on living as an Empath.. a subject matter I feel very passionate about! I truly believe that we are seeing a huge number of empaths incarnating right now to help us overcome the inertia of materialism and to awaken our world to a higher vibrational pathway. Sadly, so many empaths are not supported and some either close down, or choose to exit this planet via suicide. This is why I wrote my book: The Empath, which reveals this pattern and offers several alternatives.

The world is currently enmeshed in an energy of spiritual inertia. So many are distracted by social media, materialism and petty drama that we forget our true spiritual nature. Yet the Empaths remember and feel everything!

The rest of the world is either so poor that they cannot think past their next meal, or enmeshed in the constant war that has plagued our planet since the turn of the century. Sadly, what should be a font of wisdom and healing, the “spiritual industry” has been hijacked to become part of this web of obfuscation and deceit that keeps the vast majority of people, sick, stressed and focused only on consumerism.

It is a sign of the times, and a huge challenge for us all.

I am so fortunate on so many levels because I have had the best of teachers, and the best of guides (both spiritual and physical!) My spiritual awakening began long before it was fashionable and when psychic readings were obscure and hidden in dark little rooms, behind heavy curtains. I travelled the world to seek wisdom, and found a series of incredible teachers who guided me towards the right books to study and the right experiences for me to have. At the same time, I also found the right teachers to help me enhance my own psychic skills, beginning with my mother and Grandmother who were both involved in the Scottish spiritual churches going back to the 1800s. Yet I was part of a generation who was influenced by the Beatles sojourn into meditation, and India, so I found myself sitting at the feet of several Indian gurus learning what I could from their heavy accents and obscure terminology.

Slowly, and yet steadily, my spiritual wisdom (such as it is!) evolved within me from a combination of my life experiences and my spiritual/psychic experiences, as well as good old fashioned reading. I read the Jane Roberts books back in the 70s whilst going to the local Phoenix Ashram in South Africa (near Durban); I asked questions, I was given books to study and slowly my understanding blossomed. Over time, I studied everything, including Hindu Vedanta through to Gnostic Wisdom. As my spiritual powers awakened, I was guided to Southern France and Israel by the spirit of Mary Magdalene and through the beautiful gardens of Jerusalem by the spirit of Jesus, and in all cases, they guided me to the wisdom and understanding that filled my void of not knowing.

You can, and probably have, been doing this already.

I offer you some insights into my pathway to help you understand where I am coming from, but also where you may also find some gems of wisdom. What I offer in my teachings and sessions comes from my journey, and the spirit keepers who have guided me all these many years. Through my connection to them I can immediately embrace a download of wisdom that goes well beyond anything I can intellectually and humanly hold. For me, this is the key. I question everything and ask the spirit world for their insights, their guidance, their direction before I embrace anything. The small me can be quite cynical. I learned to be like this as a journalist, but because I always ask with an open mind, I can often be surprised at how the spirit world sees our world.

Everyone’s journey is quite unique, and yet ideal for them. Therefore, please read through these brief notes of my journey. I began in Scotland with the spiritualist church, as a very young woman, and then embraced the non-duality wisdom of Vedanta, which led of course to Gnostic wisdom, and shamanic wisdom that all is one. I am not suggesting that anyone should just simply read my words and accept them without questioning, quite the opposite, I want you to question everything. But more importantly, I urge you to weigh everything in your heart and see if it fits.

I have listed the following major pathways as foundation stones that appeared in my path, many years ago. What I teach and share comes to me via these stepping stones along with my spiritual connection.

VEDANTA/Hindu thought system: Vedanta is one of the six orthodox (āstika) schools of Hindu philosophy. Vedanta literally means "end of the Vedas", which simply means that it reflects the ideas and philosophies contained in the Upanishads. It has many sub-traditions but the best known are: Advaita (non-dualism), Vishishtadvaita (qualified non-dualism), and Dvaita (dualism).

BUDDHISM: Buddhism's main concern has always been freedom from dukkha or unease. The path to that ultimate freedom consists in ethical action (karma), meditation and in direct insight (prajña) into the nature of "things as they truly are" (yathābhūtaṃ viditvā. The Buddha defined his teaching as "the middle way" and did so in the Dhammacakkappavattana Suttra, which teaches that we should find a middle course between the extremes of asceticism and bodily denial and hedonism or indulgence. The basic teachings include: * The Middle Way *The four noble truths * The Noble Eightfold Path * Three marks of existence (impermanence, unease, not-self) * Five aggregates * Dependent arising * Karma and rebirth and * Nirvana

GNOSTICISM This was a second-century heresy claiming that salvation could be gained through secret knowledge. Gnosticism is derived from the Greek word gnosis, meaning "to know" or "knowledge." There were many schools of Gnostics but they generally believed that the created, material world (matter) is evil, and therefore in opposition to the world of the spirit, and that only the spirit is good. They constructed an evil God (with various names, such as Ahriman and the Demiurge) and beings of the Old Testament to explain the creation of the world (matter) and considered Jesus Christ a wholly spiritual being.

Some Gnostics believed that Jesus only appeared to have human form but that he was actually spirit only. The other view contended that his divine spirit came upon his human body at baptism and departed before the crucifixion. They generally believed that matter was the creation of an inferior being, the Demiurge. He, along with his aides the archōns, kept mankind imprisoned within their material existence, and barred the path of individual souls trying to ascend to the spirit world after death. For only those who possessed a divine spark (pneuma) could hope to escape from their corporeal existence although they also needed to receive the enlightenment of gnōsis before they could become liberated Many Gnostic Gospels were removed from the Bible because of their controversial wisdom. This includes the Gospel of Thomas, Philip and others.

THE AKASHIC: In theosophy and anthroposophy, the Akashic records are a compendium of all human events, thoughts, words, emotions, and intent ever to have occurred in the past, present, or future. They are encoded in a non-physical plane of existence known as the etheric plane. Akasha (ākāśa आकाश) is the Sanskrit word for 'aether' or 'atmosphere'. Also, in Hindi, akash (आकाश) means 'sky' or 'heaven'. The Sanskrit term akasha was introduced to the language of theosophy through H. P. Blavatsky (1831–1891), who characterized it as a life force; she also referred to "indestructible tablets of the astral light" recording both the past and future of human thought and action, however she did not use the term "Akashic." The term is attributed to Alfred Percy Sinnett, who, in his book Esoteric Buddhism (1883), wrote of a Buddhist belief in "a permanency of records in the Akasa" and "the potential capacity of man to read them.” Alice A. Bailey stated that: “the akashic record is like an immense photographic film, registering all the desires and earth experiences of our planet. Those who perceive it will see pictured thereon, the life experiences of every human being since time began, the reactions to experience of the entire animal kingdom, the aggregation of the thought-forms of a karmic nature (based on desire) of every human unit throughout time. Herein lies the great deception of the records. Only a trained occultist can distinguish between actual experience and those astral pictures created by imagination and keen desire.”

CHANNELING: The word “channel” means that a spiritual entity is connecting to a medium to bring forth new wisdom. Some might say that the Bible was inspired this way, but we do not know for sure. Perhaps the first we know of occurred in 1828 and was called The Book of Commandments by Joseph Smith Jr. Since that time there have been numerous books including: Ashtar (extraterrestrial being) by George Van Tassel, God by Eileen Caddy and Seth by Jane Roberts, all of which have profound messages. However, the best known is A Course In Miracles said to be from Jesus, by Helen Schucman (with typing assistance from William Thetford). All of these channelled writings have had a profound effect on me, particular A Course in Miracles, which was named the “Christian Vedanta” by William Thetford.

SHAMANISM: I went to live in Canada as a very young woman, and worked for many years on the reservations of western Canada as a reporter/photographer. During that time I was gently led into exploring shamanic work. Shamanism (along with so many other spiritual practices) has also been high-jacked by those who want to make a career, money, or fame out of being a teacher. Yet underneath it all its simple and profound message is that nature and the movements of the heavens are our teachers. Align yourself with nature and ask it to speak to you. Try to resist the urge to make this journey a material pathway of accumulating drums, medicine bags, sweat-lodge experiences because the true shaman needs nothing, including medicine tools, in order to access the higher powers.
